Note

The Tsuagaru Nuri technique first began at the end of the 17th century in what is now Tsugaru district in Hirosaki city in Aomori prefecture. It is composed of layers of lacquer with various metals and shells sprinkled onto the surface in order to create complex polychrome patterns.
